TRAVEL AREAS

The only service I travel for is my Functional Behavior Intensive Program. I use separate travel fees instead of including them in the program cost to give us maximum flexibility when deciding the best way to structure each session. Use the map below (click to magnify) to find the zone that corresponds to your address. If you have any questions about which zone you're in, I can answer those during our Matchmaking Volley.

Functional Behavior Program FAQ

FAQ - Functional Behavior Program

Are there any behaviors that you do not address through the Functional Behavior Program?

I have a different program specifically for separation-related behaviors. Aside from that, there are some situations where a Functional Behavior intensive may not be warranted – that is something we can discuss in your Matchmaking Volley.

What's the difference between the Intensive and Foundations Program?

The Intensive Program is geared towards more challenging behaviors such as aggression, fear, high intensity, and/or multiple challenging behaviors/situations. Also, if you would like me to come to you, then the Intensive Program is the only one that can include travel. The Foundations Program (once launched) is be a good fit for clients with a new dog or puppy who they want to get started off right.

What if I don’t know if my sessions should be in-home, outdoors, or virtual?

We'll decide the best setup for your first session during out Matchmaking Volley, and after that we'll decide on a per session basis. This allows me the flexibility to do everything I can to set your dog up for success.

How can I prepare for my Functional Behavior Program?
  • Start at a time when you will be able to make space for weekday training sessions.

  • Start at a time when there won’t be major disruptions to your dog’s daily lifestyle and when there are no significant foreseeable changes to any behavioral medications.

  • Plan on spending about 20-30 min on training and 5 min on tracking daily.

  • Prepare to be actively engaged. This process requires an ongoing back and forth flow of communication throughout your intensive. I consultant will also ask you to take and share video, updates, and comments via the Volley app.

What can I expect from my first Functional Behavior session?

The main focus of your first session will be to define where you want to go and where you are now. We achieve this by talking for 45 minutes to an hour, and then using the remaining session time to perform an assessment of your dog's behavior. Sometimes we will do this in 2 separate appointments (that add up to one session) if meeting virtually will be the best way to keep your dog comfortable while we converse.

How many Programs will we need to reach my goal? What if we don’t reach the goal?

I do my best to collaborate to create an agreed-upon goal that I believe is possible to achieve within 1-2 Programs. That said, there are many variables beyond my control that influence your animal’s behavior, so I cannot promise results or a specific timeframe. If we haven’t reached your agreed-upon goal at the end of a Program, then it is entirely up to you whether or not you would like to continue. I am also considering offering half or even 1/4 programs for clients who only need another session or two.

Separation Training FAQ

FAQ - Separation Training

Am I eligible for this service?

This service is currently only available for clients working with one of the vets at Insight Animal Behavior Services. If your vet there recommends Separation Training, then yes!

What will be expected of me during Separation Training?
  • Prior to your Initial Separation Training Appointment you will need to complete a baseline assessment of your dog’s behavior when alone. You will receive instruction on how to do this once you sign up.

  • After the initial appointment, you will have 2 weeks to purchase and schedule your first program.

  • Programs are four weekly 30-minute virtual training sessions (held via zoom) with four weeks of unlimited weekday text/email/video support. Program sessions are held during weekday daytime hours. You will need to be home with your dog during the sessions.

  • You should be prepared to do about 20 minutes of training and about 5 minutes of tracking/data collection (via Google Spreadsheet) every day during your Separation Training Program.

  • You will share video by uploading your files to our google drive.
